Mainstream works with individuals and families of all levels of functioning. We have established a specialty in Santa Barbara working with individuals with mood and thought disorders, helping our clients to live fuller, happier, and more productive lives. One of the factors that sets us apart and has established a high level of success and stability with these clients is integrating their families and support systems into the therapeutic process. By establishing a baseline of psychoeducation, mindful awareness, non-reactive communication patterns, and active coping strategies, we help parents, spouses, and other family members to more effectively respond to crises and strategically plan for success.
We work with doctors, psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, family members, and other care givers to ensure a high degree of continuity and follow-through between different elements of an individual’s support system.
Mainstream clinicians are familiar with and draw on a broad range of modalities, including psychodynamic, existential, crisis intervention, client-centered, narrative, and solution-focused therapy. One that we have found particularly useful is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), one of the most widely researched and universally effective therapeutic orientations. CBT has been proven useful in managing everything from mild anxiety to depression to severe delusions. This is just one of the many tools that we work to develop with our clients and their families.
At Mainstream we pride ourselves on flexibility and creativity, and focus on creating a plan for sustainable healing that acknowledges the reality that our clients are currently living. We don’t ask our clients to conform to a ready-made treatment plan, we work with them to create a new plan from scratch, focusing on important principles, strengths, and assets to pioneer a new way forward.
